Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English (LGSWE) is a descriptive grammar of English written by Douglas Biber, Stig Johansson, Geoffrey Leech, Susan Conrad, and Edward Finegan, first published by Longman in 1999. It is an authoritative description of modern English, a successor to A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language (ComGEL) published in 1985 and a predecessor of the Cambridge Grammar of the English Language (CamGEL) published in 2002. The authors and some reviewers consider it a complement rather than a replacement of the former since it follows – with few exceptions (for example in the typology of adverbials) – the grammatical framework and concepts from ComGEL, which is also corroborated by the fact that one of LGSWE's authors, Geoffrey Leech, is also a co-author of ComGEL.

Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English represents a large-scale corpus-based grammar focussing in its grammatical description of English mainly on "functional interpretation of the quantitative findings" (p. 41). These interpretations and findings are presented consistently throughout the book, with an emphasis on four major registers (functional styles), conversation, fiction, news, and academic prose, occasionally supplemented by examples from two supplementary registers: general prose (non-fiction) and non-conversational speech (e.g. lectures, sermons). Covering both British and American varieties of English in all of these registers but the last one, the descriptions in LGSWE are based on a language corpus exceeding 40 million words and as such this grammar has been widely praised as a new milestone in corpus-based grammatical studies.

While targeting "English language students and researchers" (p. 45), an abridged version of the grammar was released in 2002, Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English, together with a workbook entitled Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English Workbook, to be used by students on university and teacher-training courses.

Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) (Tamil: தமிழ் மக்கள் விடுதலைப்புலிகள், English: Tamil Peoples Liberation Tigers), previously known as the "Karuna Group", is a political party in Sri Lanka. It was formed by Karuna Amman (Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan), a former leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, after he defected from the organization in 2004. Initially a paramilitary group that helped the Sri Lankan Government fight the Tamil Tigers, the TMVP was registered as a political party in 2007. Under deputy leader Pillayan (Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan), they contested their first provincial elections in 2008, winning a majority in the Eastern Provincial Council. Members of the TMVP continue to carry arms under the auspices of the Sri Lankan government, which they claim is for their own safety from the Tamil Tigers, who carry out repeated attacks against them. The group is believed to be working with the Sri Lankan Army. They have been accused of human rights violation by local and international human rights organization.

Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (National Educational Workers Sindicate, SNTE) is a trade union which represents teachers in Mexico. Its current Secretary-General and President is Mtro. Alfonso Cepeda Salas

With over 1.4 million members, it is currently the largest teachers' union in the Americas and the largest union in Latin America. Formed in 1949, the SNTE is composed of local sections in each of Mexico's states. For much of its history, the SNTE has been a corporatist union allied with the long-ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and has been accused of having government-appointed charro leaders and anti-democratic tendencies. This resulted in a movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s in which sections from several states began demanding democratic reforms in the union structure. This movement resulted in the fall of SNTE leader Carlos Jongitud Barrios in 1989. He was replaced by Elba Esther Gordillo as President, a position she held until her arrest in late February 2013.

The Ordre des Experts Comptables de Tunisie (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Tunisia) or OECT is a professional association of accountants in Tunisia. It was created in 1983 and placed under the Ministry of Finance.

The OECT is responsible for ensuring the normal functioning of the accountancy industry, for ensuring that members respect all relevant rules and obligations and for defending the honor and independence of the profession.The institute is a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and of the International Federation of Francophone Accountants (FIDEF).

The institute participated in the national campaign for creation and development of SMEs, which was launched in April 2005 by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and SMEs.In May 2007 the institute and FIDEF held a major meeting to discuss the implications and costs involved in moving to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for SMEs standard of accounting.In October 2009, in response to the late-2000s financial crisis, the OECT held a seminar to discuss banking ethics with the assistance of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) and the Professional Association of Tunisian banks and financial institutions (APTBEF). The objective was to raise awareness of this vital subject and reduce risks.

The board of the OECT repeatedly raised concerns about the conduct of members of the Committee of State Auditors, both before and after the Tunisian revolution. On 3 June 2011 a group of 50 accountants filed a complaint of corruption by this body with the high court.Following the confiscation of more than 287 companies belonging to the Ben Ali / Trabelsi clan, in June 2011 the institute held a press conference calling for resolution of the legal status of these companies, which employed about 15,000 people and held investments in many of Tunisia's largest companies.
