"Ich bin ein Berliner" (German pronunciation: [ɪç ˈbɪn ʔaɪn bɛɐ̯ˈliːnɐ]; "I am a Berliner") is a speech by United States President John F. Kennedy given on June 26, 1963, in West Berlin. It is one of the best-known speeches of the Cold War and among the most famous anti-communist speeches.

Twenty-two months earlier, East Germany had erected the Berlin Wall to prevent mass emigration to West Berlin. The speech was aimed as much at the Soviet Union as it was at West Berliners. Another phrase in the speech was also spoken in German, "Lasst sie nach Berlin kommen" ("Let them come to Berlin"), addressed at those who claimed "we can work with the Communists", a remark at which Nikita Khrushchev scoffed only days later.

The speech is considered one of Kennedy's finest, delivered at the height of the Cold War and the New Frontier. It was a great morale boost for West Berliners, who lived in an enclave deep inside East Germany and feared a possible East German occupation.

Speaking to an audience of 120,000 on the steps of Rathaus Schöneberg, Kennedy said,

Two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was civis romanus sum ["I am a Roman citizen"]. Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is "Ich bin ein Berliner!"... All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Berliner!"

Kennedy used the phrase twice in his speech, including at the end, pronouncing the sentence with his Boston accent and reading from his note "ish bin ein Bearleener", which he had written out using English orthography to approximate the German pronunciation. He also used the classical Latin pronunciation of civis romanus sum, with the c pronounced [k] and the v as [w].

For decades, competing claims about the origins of the "Ich bin ein Berliner" overshadowed the history of the speech. In 2008, historian Andreas Daum provided a comprehensive explanation, based on archival sources and interviews with contemporaries and witnesses. He highlighted the authorship of Kennedy himself and his 1962 speech in New Orleans as a precedent, and demonstrated that by straying from the prepared script in Berlin, Kennedy created the climax of an emotionally charged political performance, which became a hallmark of the Cold War epoch.

There is a widespread misconception that Kennedy accidentally said he was a Berliner, a German doughnut specialty. This is an urban legend, including the belief that the audience laughed at Kennedy's use of this expression.

The International Network on Personal Meaning (INPM) is a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing meaning-centred research and interventions. It was founded by Paul T. P. Wong in 1998. Inspired by Viktor Frankl's logotherapy, Wong wanted to expand Frankl's vision to include the contemporary positive psychology movement. Therefore, the INPM provides a "big tent" for both existential-humanistic psychologists and positive psychologists in their biennial International Meaning Conferences and their journal, the International Journal of Existential Psychology and Psychotherapy.

There have been nine biennial International Meaning Conferences since 2000. The latest one was held in Toronto in 2016 with the theme, "Spirituality, Self-Transcendence, and Second-Wave Positive Psychology". Recently, the title of the journal has been changed to the International Journal of Existential Positive Psychology to reflect the INPM's mission, which can be best characterized by existential positive psychology (EPP) or second wave positive psychology (PP 2.0).

In addition to their focus on research and interventions, they also aim to educate the general public regarding the vital role of meaning in reducing mental illness and promoting positive mental health. This objective is achieved through their Positive Living Newsletter and Meaningful Living Meetup Groups.

Since its inception, the INPM has appealed to a broad range of professionals, including psychologists, therapists, coaches, educators, and medical professionals. Their Meaning Conference is the only international conference completely devoted to meaning from different theoretical perspectives and disciplines.

The International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM)[1] is a Players' Conference of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM)[2]

In 1962, members of US and Canadian orchestras began to meet and discuss ways they could communicate with each other, drafted bylaws, and began pushing the AFM for formal recognition of ICSOM as a conference of the AFM. Actual conference status was not conferred upon ICSOM until 1969. ICSOM's example and successes over the years inspired other groups to organize into formal conferences as well – the Recording Musicians Association (RMA)[3], the Regional Orchestra Players' Association (ROPA)[4], and the Theatre Musicians Association (TMA)[5]. ICSOM's Canadian members left ICSOM when the Organization of Canadian Symphony Musicians (OCSM/OMOSC)[6] was formed in 1975.

Several books have chronicled the history of ICSOM, including More Than Meets the Ear: How Symphony Musicians Made Labor History [7] by Julie Ayer (Syren Book Company) and The First Fifty Years of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians by Tom Hall [8].

ICSOM began tabulating conductor evaluations in 1967 and has nearly 600 different conductors in the database. An online Conductor Evaluation Program for ICSOM musicians to evaluate its conductors was launched in January 2018. [9]

In March 2009, then ICSOM chairman Bruce Ridge appeared before United States Congress. His testimony before the House Committee on Education and Labor on the economic impact of the arts and music industry can be viewed on YouTube [10]

ICSOM is also involved in supporting minority-group instrumentalists and currently contributes prize money to winners of the Sphinx Competition[11].

The Mexican Special Forces Corps (Spanish: Cuerpo de Fuerzas Especiales) is a special forces unit of the Mexican Army.
