The Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) is an annual film festival held in Vancouver, British Columbia for about 4–5 days in November. Launching in 1996, it is Canada’s oldest Asian film festival, exhibiting films and videos by North American artists of Asian heritage. It was founded in 1995 and debuted in September 1997. Since then, tens of thousands of film lovers have experienced a diverse selection of North American-Asian and international films.

Each year VAFF attracts close to 4,000 audience members over its four-day festival and year-round events. It also reaches many more through word of mouth, pre-festival events, and traditional and social media throughout the year.

Awards include a juried award for Best Canadian Short. Categories include: Narrative (i.e. drama, comedy, romance), Documentary, Animation, and Experimental. Visiting artists have included Tzi Ma, Osric Chau, Ham Tran, Justin Lin, Michael Kang and Jessica Yu, as well as BC filmmakers, Mina Shum and Julia Kwan. The New Educational Center for Hope (NECH) is a non-governmental organization that works to educate and empower the refugees in the Nyarugusu camp in Tanzania.

The camp is located in Makere zone of Kasulu District in the Kigoma region of western Tanzania and hosts approximately 54,000 refugees. The UNHCR, Tanzania Water and Environmental Sanitation (TWESA), World Vision, and the Tanzanian government provide residents with basic living facilities. However, post-primary and vocational education is not provided. Local refugees have taken it upon themselves to provide auxiliary educational training for their youth and have established several schools within the area. NECH is one such school, which was founded by refugees on July 3, 2003. It operates through aid from humanitarian organizations, participation fees, and member contributions. Mr. Bilombele Asukulu, who is also coordinator of the Nyarugusu refugee camp, currently runs NECH. Under Asukulu’s direction, NECH’s twenty-one volunteers carry out the following educational services for its 154 students:

KAMI, derived from the Indonesia Kesatuan Aksi Mahasiswa Indonesia ("Indonesian Students Action Union") was an Indonesian anti-communist group formed on 27 October 1965.

It consisted of Islamic, Catholic, and former Indonesian Socialist Party (PSI) members. KAMI and other anti-communist student groups were backed by the Indonesian National Armed Forces and organised anti-Sukarno protests which helped strengthen general Suharto's position following the abortive coup attempt that led to the downfall of Indonesian founding president Sukarno. Following the killing of two student demonstrators outside the Presidential Palace in February 1966, Sukarno officially banned KAMI. This was, however, ignored by the students and their supporters and backers within the military forces and the Indonesian National Police.

Similar groups formed at this time of retaliation against Communists (who had been blamed for the coup attempt) included a high school students' front, KAPPI (Kesatuan Aksi Pelajar Pemuda Indonesia, "Indonesian Youth and Students' Action Front"), and a university graduates' front, KASI (Kesatuan Aksi Sarjana Indonesia, "Indonesia Universities' Alumni Action Front"). These two groups were formed in early 1966 and had a core made up of members of the Muslim group Masyumi and the then-banned Indonesian Socialist Party. Newark Liberty International Airport (IATA: EWR, ICAO: KEWR, FAA LID: EWR), originally Newark Metropolitan Airport and later Newark International Airport, is an international airport straddling the boundary between the cities of Newark in Essex County and Elizabeth in Union County, New Jersey. The airport is currently owned jointly by the cities of Elizabeth and Newark and leased to and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Newark Airport is located 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Downtown Newark, and 9 miles (14 km) west-southwest of the borough of Manhattan. It is one of three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area; the others are John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, which are also operated by the Port Authority.

The airport is located near the Newark Airport Interchange, the junction between Interstate 95 and Interstate 78 (both components of the New Jersey Turnpike), as well as U.S. Routes 1 and 9, which has junctions with U.S. Route 22 and Route 81. The airport handles almost as many flights as John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), despite being 40 percent of JFK's land size.
