The University of Kashmir (U-K, UoK) informally known as Kashmir University (KU) is a collegiate public state university located on the western side of Dal Lake in the city of Srinagar, India which was established in 1948. The main campus of the university is divided into three parts; Hazratbal Campus, Naseem Bagh Campus, and Mirza Bagh Campus.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, commonly referred to as SMVD University or SMVDU, is a state university recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B) and is established on an 470-acre (190 ha) campus located near Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated near the shrine of the Mata Vaishno Devi, after which it is named. The university is fully residential and provides technical education in the field of engineering, science, management, philosophy and other subjects of contemporary importance, with all technical courses recognised by AICTE, UGC and COA.

Located at a distance of 45 km (28 mi) from Jammu Airport and 14 km (8.7 mi) short of the holy town of Katra, the university is situated on a plateau surrounded by mountains on three sides in the foothills of the Trikuta Range where the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is located. It is a self-contained township with most facilities available in-house.

The university is named after saint Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah. The University campus is located at the foothills of the great Himalayan Pir Panjal range in Rajouri, 154 KM from Jammu, the Winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir union territory. It focuses on undergraduate engineering courses, a diverse post graduate courses and research in fields such as management, environment, biodiversity, bio-technology, computer sciences, information technology, and applied mathematics.Prof.Akbar Masood is new vice chancellor of this university appointed on 13 February 2021.

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) was an Agricultural University in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It was established in the year 1982 and named after Kashmiri leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who is popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir.

Initially, the university had jurisdiction over the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir with its headquarters at Srinagar. The agricultural education, research and extension training units were transferred to SKUAST from various development departments of the Jammu and Kashmir State.

In the year 1998–99, the territorial jurisdiction of the university was redefined by amending the SKUAST Act 1982 under which a separate agricultural university was established for the Jammu Division and named as Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) with its territorial jurisdiction extended to the entire Jammu Division. The parent University was renamed as Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K)
