Answer» What is Waikato, New Zealand mean? Waikato ( or ) is a local government region of the upper North Island of New Zealand. It covers the Waikato District, Waipa District, Matamata-Piako District, South Waikato District and Hamilton City, as well as Hauraki, Coromandel Peninsula, the northern King Country, much of the Taupō District, and parts of Rotorua District. It is governed by the Waikato Regional Council. The region stretches from Coromandel Peninsula in the north, to the north-eastern slopes of Mount Ruapehu in the south, and spans the North Island from the west coast, through the Waikato and Hauraki to Coromandel Peninsula on the east coast. Broadly, the extent of the region is the Waikato River catchment. Other major catchments are those of the Waihou, Piako, Awakino and Mokau rivers. The region is bounded by Auckland on the north, Bay of Plenty on the east, Hawke's Bay on the south-east, and Manawatū-Whanganui and Taranaki on the south. Waikato Region is the fourth largest region in the country in area and population: It has an area of 25,000 km2 (9,700 sq mi) and a population of 506,000 (June 2021). The region encompasses all or part of eleven territorial authorities, the most of any region of New Zealand. It is centred on the Waikato which consists of Waikato District, Matamata-Piako District, Waipa District, South Waikato District and Hamilton City. In descending order of land area the eleven territorial authorities are Taupō District (part), Waikato District, Waitomo District (part), Thames-Coromandel District, Ōtorohanga District, South Waikato District, Matamata-Piako District, Waipa District, Hauraki District, Rotorua District (part), and Hamilton City. The name for the region is taken from the Waikato River; waikato is a Māori word traditionally translated as "flowing water" (specifically, wai = "water" and kato = "the pull of the river current in the sea"). When Waikato is used in spoken language it takes the definite article: the Waikato. But this usually refers to a smaller region than the Waikato local government region. Two definitions that would meet with wide acceptance are those of the Waikato rugby football union and of Hamilton Waikato tourism. The former takes in the local government areas of Hamilton City, the southern part of Waikato district, Waipa district, most of Matamata-Piako district and the South Waikato district. Hamilton Waikato tourism takes in additionally the northern part of Waikato district (Tuakau and other centres), the northern King Country (Waitomo and Ōtorohanga districts), and the Te Aroha district. The parts of Waikato region beyond these limits are usually identified as Thames Valley and/or Hauraki/Coromandel (for the north-eastern part of Waikato region) and Taupō, on the Volcanic or Central Plateau (for the south-eastern part of the region). reference nan |

Answer» What is Karamea, New Zealand mean? Karamea is a town on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is the northernmost settlement of any real size on the West Coast, and is located 96 kilometres (60 mi) northeast by road from Westport. There is no other connecting road to the town - the road north ends at the Kohaihai River some 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Karamea, at the southwestern end of the Heaphy Track. The name Karamea is Māori – despite local jokes suggesting it was named by an Italian for his love – and is thought to either mean "red ochre" or be a corruption of Kakarataramea, "the smell of speargrass leaves". Karamea Bight, the large bay formed by the curve of coastline north for 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Cape Foulwind, is part of the Tasman Sea. The Karamea River flows into the Karamea Bight just south of the main township, and there is a large lagoon that completely clears of water at low tide, and completely fills with water at high tide. The Oparara River runs through the area, and the Oparara Basin Arches, large natural river tunnels, are a well-known tourist destination, though tourism in the area is limited compared to most other parts of New Zealand. Karamea township offers local services including a general store, supermarket, petrol pumps, information centre, cafe, hotel, camping ground, motels, backpackers, art & craft shop, and a community library, the Karamea War Memorial Library. Little Wanganui, a small dairy farming village south of Karamea, includes a surfing beach and a river popular for whitebaiting and fishing. It includes a small tavern, community hall and volunteer fire brigade. Golden Bay Air flies to Karamea Aerodrome from Nelson and Takaka. reference nan |

Answer» What is Greenhithe, New Zealand mean? Greenhithe is a suburb of the North Shore of Auckland in New Zealand. In 2001 Greenhithe had a population of 4,170 according to the census. It showed dramatic growth after the North Shore City Council determined that it was to be a major growth area. Where once the typical section size was a quarter to half an acre, the newer subdivisions of Wainoni, Admiral's Court and others have reduced that to around 600m2 (with a quarter acre being a shade over 1000m2). Since 1 November 2010, Greenhithe has been under the governance of Auckland Council. Greenhithe includes the Wainoni area around Wainoni Park. Historically, Greenhithe extended from the Upper Harbour Bridge through to Wainoni Park in the north. New subdivisions have extended the urban boundaries through to "Greenhithe North", including the northern part of Kyle Rd and Schnapper Rock. Until a proposed bridge is built to join the two Kyle Rds, these areas may have more community affiliation with Albany. Greenhithe is bordered by Lucas Creek in the north and Hellyers Creek in the south. New Zealand Transport Agency completed the Upper Harbour Motorway through Greenhithe, in late 2007. reference nan |
