In United States telecommunication law, the Modification of Final Judgment (MFJ) is the August 1982 consent decree concerning the American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) and its subsidiaries. The terms required the Bell System divestiture — removing local telephone service from AT&T control and putting business restrictions on the divested local telephone companies — in exchange for removing other longstanding restrictions on what businesses AT&T could control.: 125 

The decree replaced the entirety of the previous final judgment of January 24, 1956 in the case United States of America v. Western Electric Company, Incorporated, and American Telephone and Telegraph Company, also known as United States v. Western Electric Co. which had been transferred to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and is referred to in the MFJ as the Western Electric case,: 143 (also footnote 4) and consolidated with the existing United States v. AT&T filed on November 20, 1974, which is referred to in the MFJ as the AT&T action: 139 or AT&T case.

The decree was made with Harold H. Greene as presiding judge.

The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) is an organization whose mission it is to foster the technological advancement, availability, and implementation of a universal emergency telephone number system in the United States. In carrying out its mission, NENA promotes research, planning, training and education. The protection of human life, the preservation of property and the maintenance of general community security are among NENA's objectives.

The Next Hop Resolution Protocol (NHRP) is an extension of the ATM ARP routing mechanism that is sometimes used to improve the efficiency of routing computer network traffic over Non-Broadcast, Multiple Access (NBMA) Networks. It is defined in IETF RFC 2332, and further described in RFC 2333. It can be used by a sender to determine a route with the fewest hops to a receiver. The protocol differs from ARP-type protocols in that it allows routing optimization across multiple IP subnets. NHRP is implemented by means of next-hop servers across IP subnets. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA NITZ-ah) is an agency of the U.S. federal government, part of the Department of Transportation. It describes its mission as "Save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes" related to transportation safety in the United States.
